Palaeocast Art Competition 2015

After the success of last year’s palaeoart competition we’re stepping up a gear and launching an even bigger and better contest. This time we’ve got three times as many prizes to give away courtesy of Cider Mill Press, Palaeoplushies and Paleocreations.

We’re running the competition on Facebook and Twitter between the 1st May and 1st June using #palaeocastart.

Participation:

This competition is a celebration of palaeontology through art and, as such, is intended for the widest possible participation. We want everyone to enjoy this competition and not be put off by the high standards of some of the super-talented palaeoartists out there. It is for that reason that professional entries are not permitted*.

To encourage participation from younger palaeontologists, we’re also distinguishing entries into two categories: <16 and ≥16 years old. Please state on submission if the palaeoartist is <16.

*We consider professionals to be anyone who sells their palaeoart or has a dedicated website for their artwork. Professionals are encouraged to share their work with us in this celebration of palaeoart, but would be required to state their ineligibility.

Artwork:

We’re looking for an original pieces of palaeoart, so nothing that has been submitted to other competitions before. But what constitutes as art? It can be anything! Last year we had images made in charcoal, digitally produced and even physical models.

Submission:

Submission is through Facebook OR Twitter. Simply upload your image ONCE, to either platform, using #palaeocastart. We will share/retweet that image from our account on the same site, then upload it to our account on the other site. The image will then exist on the Palaeocast pages on both Facebook and Twitter.

Multiple submission are permitted, but only one prize will be awarded to any one contestant.

Please be wary that your account privacy settings may not allow us to see your images. If this is the case, or if you don’t have Facebook or Twitter accounts, please get in touch via the contact form at the foot of the page. Additionally, if you want to submit a file type, e.g. a video that isn’t supported by Facebook or Twitter please email us.

Voting:

The competition is once again judged by public vote. Once your original artwork is uploaded to Facebook and Twitter, the public then vote by ‘liking’ or ‘favouriting’ their choice images. The voting begins on 00:00 (UTC+1) 1st May and votes will be counted until 00:00 (UTC+1) 1st June.

Prizes will be awarded to the three most-voted-for images in the categories: <16 years old, ≥16 years old and Overall Winner.

Voters are allowed to vote for as many images as they like. Sharing/retweeting of images is permitted, but keep in mind any privacy settings you have on your account.

Prizes:

Three lots of prizes will be awarded. The Overall Winner is the artwork with the most votes. We then have prizes for the artwork with the most votes in each age category. Only one prize per person. The artwork of the Overall Winner is not eligible to also win the prize for their age category, in this case, the prize will go to the next highest palaeoartist. If multiple pieces submitted by the same palaeoartist finish in prize winning positions the prize will be awarded to their highest-voted piece, their other pieces will be ineligible to win and the next highest palaeoartist will win the prize.

We will announce the winners of the competition shortly after the voting deadline. We will then privately contact the winners for their contact details. Please allow up to a month for shipping.

Small print:

By entering this competition you acknowledge that Palaeocast is permitted non-commercial usage of your imagery (e.g. for promotional use or illustrative purposes). Palaeocast reserves the right to change the competition rules at any point. Palaeocast reserves the right to No cash alternatives are offered for prizes. Prizes will be sent with tracked shipping. If, for any reason, the prizes do not arrive, Palaeocast will not be responsible for sourcing replacements.
