0April 2020 Announcements
All over the world, people are going through some very challenging times and we, as Palaeocast, are mourning the loss of two of our family.
Firstly, we reflect upon the untimely passing of our former host Dr Jon Tennant who was involved in a motorcycle accident in Bali. Those of you who knew Jon would attest to his passions for science communication and open access publishing. Our thoughts remain with all those affected by his death.
Secondly, is someone none of you were likely aware of, but without whom this show would not have been possible and that’s Steve Coates. He was part of the University of Manchester’s media team and it was him who was able to loan us all the equipment we needed to start the show and who was always on hand to help guide us in those early years. He too will be missed, and we just wanted to finally give him some of the recognition he deserves.
The coronavirus pandemic is taking people from us and so we hope that you are all adhering to advice and putting others first. Social distancing is a challenge for all of us and so I’m happy that Palaeocast has been of some distraction for many of you. Thanks to all those who have messaged over the past few weeks.
With regards to the show, we apologise for the lack of recent content, especially at this time. Dave was called away at short notice to a job in Norway that got drawn out for a month, during which time he was unable to record or edit content.
We’ve now got content recorded and we’ll be releasing a new episode on the first of May. We’ll also be launching our art competition then, so please keep an eye on our social media for more details of that over the coming days.
Thank you for your patience at this time and we hope you are all well.
